A bird´s hut

Hi everybody! Today we are going to make a beautiful bird´s hut. Is a beautiful activity make a home for a birds. You can put it in your garden and, if you don´t have a garden, you can put it in a nearby tree or maybe in your house as decoration. Be creative !

MATERIALS:

•  Had saw
• Saw of arch
• Hammer
• Carpenter´s brace
• Screwdriver
• Ruler
• Set squere
• Paint brush
• Glases of protection(opcional)
• (1)Blade of plywood for outer of 2′ x 4′ x 1/2″
• (1)Round strip of 6 1/2″ x 1/4″
• (6) Stainless screw for wood of 6 x 3/4″
• Galvanize nail of 1” o 3d
• Glue tough to water
• Sandpaper
• Finished of polyurethane

 How we make it?

Trace the outline of the pieces of the hut. Use the set squere for draw rect angles. Is very important the walls and the floor of the hut fit together.
Outline of the front walls and following.

1· Draw two rectangles of  6 1/2″ x  8 5/8″ using the short sides as overs and lowers parts.
2· Draw a mark in each vertical side to 5 1/4 of the lower part.
3· Make one mark in the point of de superior part of each rectangle. This marks fix the tallest part of the roof.
4· In each rectangle, unite this superior mark with the lateral marks. The resulting lines define the angle of the verticals of the roof of the hut.

• The lateral walls (2): 5″ x 6 1/2″
• The guideway of fastening of the floor (2): 6 1/2″ x 1/2″ x 1/2″
• The verticals of the roof ( one of each side) 6 1/2″ x 9 1/4″ y 6″ x 9 1/4″

We recommend that for your first house use the dimensions indicated in the diagrams. If later use builds casitas of other sizes to accommodate the different types of birds, replace the outline measures by which they appear in the table of size options that put an end to this item. The steps to make the caste are the same for all sizes.

 Cut the drawn pieces.

With the carpenter´s brace, drill a 1 1/2 "diameter hole in the front wall for birds to enter. Also make the 1/4" surface hole into which the spike was inserted once the birdhouse is armed. (Refer to the location of the holes in the diagram. 

Attach the floor holding guides to the inside of the front and back walls : 

a. Mark with a pencil the horizontal center line of the guides. 

b. Mark the center line from the base of the inside of the front and back walls. do.  

c. Center the floor fastening guides on the inside of the front and back walls for use as reference pencil marks. The guides should be parallel and aligned with the base of the walls. 

d. Attach parts with water-resistant glue and galvanized nails. 

  

Attach the side walls to the front and back walls with waterproof glue and galvanized nails. Make sure that the bases of the walls are well aligned. 

Set roof slopes to the top of the hut. Attach the piece 6 "wide, from the ceiling, to the top edge aligned with the line stitch from the point of view. The 6 1/2" piece overlaps the edge of the other piece at the tip. 

Put the hut head down and fix the floor with wood screws. 

The screws must pass through the base to the holding guides located inside the hut, on the front and rear walls. In this case do not apply glue. To clean the floor with each change of season, simply unscrew and remove.

Sand your hut until it is smooth and pleasant to the touch.

Paint the hut

If you go to paint your hut, you must consider that each variety of birds attracts a different color. Swallows, for example, prefer the white. Do not paint the interior of the house. Birds do not like to nest in houses that are painted on the inside. Apply two or three coats of outdoor latex paint. Give him three layers of polyurethane finish. There are water-based polyurethane finishes specially designed to be applied over paint that does not yellow their color. These finishes are eco-friendly and easy to clean.
